The criminal complaint made by Ankara University Rector Erkan İbiş against Peace Academic Dr. Cenk Yiğiter, who was dismissed from the university with an emergency decree, was concluded with non-prosecution.
Academics wanting to protest the dismissals of 78 academics from Ankara University with Statutory Decree No. 686 within the State of Emergency have been prevented from entering the university campus; then the academics had held a press statement on Yüksel Street. Yiğiter was on trial, charged with “holding illegal meeting and insulting government authorities” due to this speech. The Prosecutor’s Office decided that the act in question and the speech are uses of democratic rights within freedom of expression.
